Income-driven loan repayments

Targeted messaging and increasing IDR enrollment

Intervention Description

The Department of Education worked to increase the amount of income-driven repayment plans for student loans. The intervention was a large-scale email campaign that gave details about the benefits and availability of various income-driven repayment programs. These emails both emphasized action and decreased potential rejection or negative effects. The emails overall were effective at increasing IDR enrollment, but there was no significant increase for different target messages.
