Overview

Social distancing works, but in its simplest form can be very economically damaging. Contact tracing and testing can greatly improve this problem by helping us to apply social distancing at the right places, around infected people. Technology can help further. 

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, there is a growing need for a social distancing approach that allows for economies to restart. At the same time, it is important to avoid creating tools which can later be abused by governments and companies to surveil and track individuals.

The Challenge

TDL collaborated with researchers at Mila, the world’s largest academic research center in deep learning, to develop a COVID-19 contact tracing app. The specific ask of TDL was to help transform the concept of a research app into a consumer facing app, putting behavioral science and user mental wellbeing at its core.
